  • Zero to Maker Series - Wood Shop7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

    The Zero To Maker series is a sequence of classes to introduce new members to key peices of equipment and training at the Center of Gravity. Members who need a refresher on the topic are also welcome to attend!

    This week's class will be an introduction to the most commonly used wood shop tools available at the COG. The class is taught by Doug "Elvis" Williams, and will have some basic hands on experience to insure you're comfortable with the basics.Before coming to the class, please review this Red Tools Safety Video online: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1KgaohH9Ec&feature=youtu.be This video will go over the basic safety procedures for the woodshop specifically, allowing you to focus on finer details during the Zero To Maker class.

  • Laser Cutter Zero-to-Maker Make-Up7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

    Due to the need for a last minute cancellation of last week's Laser Cutter Zero-to-Maker, we're offing a make-up session at 7 pm tonight. While the Woodshop Zero-to-Maker will be conducted simultaneously, if you had plans to attend both this month, Elvis has graciously agreed to stay on and conduct a second Woodshop Zero-to-Maker session at the conclusion of the Laser Cutter session. We aim to please!

We are so grateful for your support, and we're always striving to find new ways to leverage our collective energy to help the Capital Region game dev community thrive. We believe that the key to doing that is empowering all of you to take on a more active role in helping our local game development scene grow and flourish. With that in mind, we want to invite everyone to attend our volunteer coordination meeting. Many of you have been asking how you can get more involved with our group efforts, and this meeting will be a great chance to do just that. We've done so many great things together, and there's no limit to what we can accomplish as long as we remain dedicated to improving. So, let's get organized!

    The Zero To Maker series is a sequence of classes to introduce new members to key peices of equipment and training at the Center of Gravity. Members who need a refresher on the topic are also welcome to attend!

    This week's class will be an introduction to the fiber arts / crafts / galss cutting area available at the COG. Focus will be on the sewing machines, loom and embroidery machine, as well as crafting and glass cutting, and will be taught by Irene Purificato, the SRP for that zone.

    Welcome to the Tech Valley Game Space Community Night! Updates from the community are encouraged! Volunteer for events at the TVGS and around the area to be a part of making them a reality for everyone. If you want to be in the know, and get involved, then this is the meeting to attend! If you have a project that you need help with, this is also the time to request any assistance from the community! The TVGS has a goal to help create local games, and there are multiple projects ongoing. Use your skills and help make games! Note: This month's community night is a week later than usual, due to Thanksgiving.

    Bring your own project (sewing, knitting, needlework...or hey, anything portable) and a beverage for a fun evening stitching and sipping in good company. The CoG provides an empty table, well-lighted work space and electricity, as well as witty banter and camaraderie. No instructor, craft along with fellow Makers. Free to members, $5 cash fee at check-in for non-members. (Membership has its privileges, join the Center of Gravity to access our awesome equipment, including sewing machines!)

  • STEAM-Powered Saturday -- Make an LED Bookmark10:00 am - 1:00 pm

    Every 1st Saturday children ages 4-12 and their families are invited to join us for a fun, creative hands-on project. Brought to you through the generous support of the Albany Society of Engineers Foundations, these mind-expanding projects help children discover creative play through science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics. This month's project is "Make an LED Bookmark." Use felt, conductive thread, and LEDS to create a light up bookmark. This project is free, but donations are welcome.

    SPECIAL TIME THIS MONTH! Our monthly general membership meeting will be held this month at 7:30 so that we can host a special event in the SEFCU Community Room earlier in the day.

    This week's class will be an introduction to the 3D printers available at the COG. Focus will be on the Makerfront, mBot and Makerbot printers and the software used to prepare models for printing (called slicers). This class is being taught by Mick Cipollo, the SRP for the 3D Printing area.

    The Zero To Maker series is a sequence of classes to introduce new members to key peices of equipment and training at the Center of Gravity. Members who need a refresher on the topic are also welcome to attend!

    This week's class will be an introduction to the laser cutter (Big Red) available at the COG. An online video will be available soon that covers core laser cutting concepts so that the in-person component will be using the software and equipment itself. This class is being taught by Tom Tongue, SRP for the laser cutting zone.

    Learn the fundamentals of enamels in this 2 1/2 hour beginner class. This class will cover how to choose enamels and metals, prepare the metal, sift enamel, and fire. At the end of class, you’ll have a one of a kind Christmas tree ornament to take home. Registration fee of $25.00 to be paid by check or online by December 7. Fee includes materials.
