Volunteer Opportunity: FIRST LEGO League Team Assistant

ACTIVELY SEEKING VOLUNTEERS

TVCOG is looking for volunteers to help support our FIRST LEGO League (FLL) team! As a volunteer, you'll work alongside our two team Mentors, helping middle school students from KIPP Troy Prep explore coding, engineering, and teamwork through LEGO robotics. Sessions run on Fridays from 1-3pm, starting October 18th, 2024, and ending by March 2025. Open to ages 18+ or high school students ages 16+ who are currently in FIRST robotics programs.  A signed parental consent form must be provided by any volunteer currently in high school. Background checks required for all volunteers.

What You’ll Do:

  • Assist the Team: Help up to 10 students design, build, and program LEGO robots to tackle FLL challenges.
  • Support Learning: Assist with hands-on activities, making sure students understand key concepts in coding and teamwork.
  • Encourage Creativity: Create a positive environment where students can be creative, solve problems, and work together.
  • Prep for Competitions: Help the team get ready for regional FLL competitions.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Enthusiasm for STEAM (Science, Tech, Engineering, Art, Math)!
  • Must be comfortable working with middle school students. Prior volunteer/teaching experience preferred.
  • Able to commit to the majority of the Friday sessions and competition dates.
  • Experience with robotics, coding, FLL competition teams or any FIRST programs.

Help inspire the next generation of innovators!
