The CoG is proud to do what we can to support the Capital Region during this difficult time. Our equipment and our community will be allocated to producing personal protective equipment (PPE) needed by our local community.

I am in need of PPE

  1. Please review our offerings below. Check each item's information carefully, and be sure that it will meet your needs. 
  2. Submit your request here, through our web store.
    - Anyone can submit a request, but we are prioritizing local "essential" workers. Please be sure to fill out the section with your job title and employer when prompted. 
    LIMIT 5 OF EACH ITEM PER REQUEST. Requests larger than 5 will be cancelled & refunded (if applicable). Need a large amount? Email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we'll see what we can do. 
  3. Your request will be forwarded to our awesome volunteers who are fabricating PPE.
    - We have a limited number of materials and volunteers. We will be fabricating PPE as requests come in.
  4. You will be notified when your request is ready to be picked up, but it may take a while. We will be setting up a few pickup timeframes each week.
    - If we are unable to fulfill your request (due to lack of materials, etc), we will let you know. 

 

I would like to help make PPE

Awesome! This effort relies on volunteers and donated materials. To encourage social distancing, most fabrication work will take place in volunteer's homes.

  1. Review the "Information for Makers" sections for each item. Determine what you are capable of making.

  3. As we receive requests, we will distribute them to our volunteers.
  4. When you receive a make request, be sure to follow all instructions in the "Information for Makers" section. Check it before starting, as this information may change as we refine the process. 
  5. When you have completed what was requested, drop off your completed items in the Donation Bin located in the CoG's vestibule (a black garbage can with a 3"x14" slot on the top). 
  6. Completed items will be checked for quality, quarantined for three days to prevent disease spread, and distributed to those who have requested them.

TOOLS

  • 3D printer, at least 8" x 8" build area
  • 3-hole punch

MATERIALS 

  • Transparent sheet, US Letter size. Ideally PET. 
    • We have a laser cutter jig that is set up for proper hole size and spacing. If you can't get a hole puncher to work well, we can cut the holes. 
    • We can provide sheets if needed, but our stock is limited.   
    • PETG, ASA, or PLA filament

WORK AREA SETUP

  • Locate all of your tools and materials in a designated "clean area" of your house. 
    • Wear a face mask and gloves when in this area
    • Wipe down all work surfaces and tools with a disinfecting solution before and after use. 

PRINT SETTINGS

  • 20% infill
  • 2.5 mm layer height.
  • 3 wall vertical/horizontal
  • 50mm/sec (recommended, change for best filament performance)

POST-PROCESSING

  • While wearing face mask and golves, wash all parts with soap (or disinfecting solution) and hot water. 
  • Dry parts in a 140 degF oven for 60 minutes. 
  • Write your name in sharpie on a Ziploc bag. Place parts in the Ziploc bag.

  • Isopropyl alcohol, Wipe for 5 min or Immersion, Dry for 30 min
