Learn the basics of using CAD to design for additive manufacturing processes.

A handheld 3d scanner

Are you interested in learning the basics of CAD and implementing Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) techniques for your next project? This short course will take you through the building blocks within Autodesk Fusion360 and Meshmixer to help you design parts from scratch, organically model bespoke shapes, and manipulate 3D scan data for reverse engineering applications. There will be an emphasis on Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing) applications including considerations for reliable slicing techniques, but these tools can be applied to several manufacturing processes.

No previous experience necessary. Open to ages 18+, or 16+ with a parent/guardian chaperone. Computers are not provided; please bring your own laptop.

Class Fees: $40 CoG Members | $50 Non-Members

About the instructor: Joe Fairley is an ABC Certified Prosthetist & Board Eligible Orthotist, and is the owner of Ascent Fabrication in Saratoga Springs, which provides additive manufacturing and digital workflow solutions to the prosthetics & orthotics industry. He has working knowledge of several forms of additive manufacturing, CAD design, R&D, and several different 3D scanners. He holds a patent which involves the additive manufacture through continuous fiber fabrication of a modular lower limb prosthesis system, has been published in Prosthetics and Orthotics International, and has presented his research at multiple P&O conferences.
